Aaron Judge’s pre-game outfit hints at Yankees return to free agency

Is AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge hinting at what he’ll be up to in free agency this upcoming offseason?

While Judge is still chasing the American League single-season home run record, fans know his contract expires with the Yankees once the season is over. But Judge walked into the Rogers Center in Toronto on Monday night with a potential message on the front of his hoodie.

“New York or Nowhere” was written in blue letters on the gray cotton. It’s a popular lifestyle brand in New York, but fans might not see it that way.

Prior to the start of the season, Judge turned down an eight-year deal worth $230.5 million to $234.5 million and was reportedly looking for a nine-year deal worth around $319. $6 million. The judge set an opening day deadline – April 8 – and said he would not discuss the contract until after the season.

The judge stuck to that word. He also posted a wild season that helped the Yankees earn another playoff berth with the AL East Division title on the way (New York must beat Toronto once in its current series).

“Aaron is a great Yankee, and he’s very valuable to this organization,” team owner Hal Steinbrenner said in July. “He’s a great leader. Obviously he’s done extremely well this year, which we’re all thrilled about. So listen, any great Yankee, yeah, that’s something we’re going to look at and we’re going to talk seriously. It means a lot to the organization. Nobody will deny it.

Entering Monday, Judge not only leads the league with 60 homers, but he’s close to the AL Triple Crown as he’s tied with Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts at .314 while leading with 128. points produced.

Judge also had an OPS of 1.118 and a WAR of 9.9.
