Axie Infinity’s Broken Server Causes Disconnections, Company Responds

New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….

The original story (published July 15, 2021) follows:

Axie Infinity is a non-fungible token (NFT) game developed by Sky Mavis that allows players to earn money by raising, breeding, fighting and trading Axie creatures in the marketplace.

The goal of the game is to provide a fun and educational way to introduce people to the world of blockchain technology.

Third parties can access all of Axie’s art assets and data, giving developers in the community the ability to create their own tools and experiences to further enhance the Axie Infinity universe.

In short, the more you contribute to the Axie universe, the more rewards you will reap.

Unfortunately, things haven’t been too orderly in the Axie universe lately. There have been a bunch of complaints of the game players on server issues and several other issues.

@AxieInfinity hi axie infinity administrators will there be a patch on the server ?? because it is so difficult to enter the adventure mode and the arena

Hi, Axie. Almost three days so far, your server is still not functioning properly. What is happening? I invested all my savings here. I just started July 9, 2021. I am a beginner! Please hurry and fix it. Thank you so much.

Based on the complaints, it appears that the server issues have persisted for 3 days now, during which Axie players were unable to enter the adventure mode and arena and play the game at all.

Not only that, but there are also several complaints about random errors and disconnections that spoil the experience of the game.

Some of these issues include stuck axes that cannot be purchased and issues while attempting to transform.

Following the wave of complaints, Axie Infinity took to Twitter yesterday to acknowledge problems and report that they are working on a fix.

Shortly after, another Tweet from the game developer indicated that the market was back and the stranded Axies had been eliminated. Morphing and reproduction have also been fixed.

So it is now clear that most of the major issues have been resolved. However, the elephant in the room – the server issues – has yet to be resolved.

Axie Infinity returned later yesterday to say that the exponential growth is to blame for the server issues and that they are now working on a complete upgrade of their servers.

An ETA for when the servers are back up and running smoothly has not been given, but we hope it will happen soon.

Update 2 (July 17)

Inbound is the last status update from the official Axie Infinity Twitter account, and here’s what they have to say about server outages:

Thanks for the patience with everything.

We know you’d like some concrete updates regarding the upgrade and patch schedule, but we want to under-promise and over-deliver.

Traditionally, server outages have only affected Coinbase and Binance in Crypto. We have joined the elite company!

Update 3 (July 19)

Axie Infinity offered another update on the issue explaining what the whole team is doing regarding server issues.

What’s disappointing is that they don’t know how long it will take for things to get back to normal, in days or weeks.

Update 4 (July 20)

IST 11:00 – Axie Infinity recently too sharing advice from its engineers on this problem on Twitter:

A tip from our engineers:

If you are having trouble playing, Cloudflare, our anti-DDoS protection system, might mistakenly identify you as a DDsS threat (spam server with requests).

VPNs can also trigger this.

Please rest for 2 hours, then try again.
