Batman vs. Gandalf in new free-to-play WB fighting game, LeBron James could be a DLC character

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the games division of the media giant, could be working on a multiverse-themed platform fighter featuring Batman, Gandalf and other WB characters battling it out in a fighting style game. Smash Bros.

During the weekend, a rumor arose on Reddit regarding a new crossover platform fighting game featuring characters from WB. The post stated that this game was in development at Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm, but reporter Jeff Grubb said that was not true (although the game “is real,” Grubb said).

The characters in this supposed game include Shaggy from Scooby Doo, Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, Tom & Jerry, Batman, Fred Flintstone, Mad Max, Johnny Bravo and potentially Harry Potter and Ron (although their inclusion is not a sure thing, according to the report).

On September 27, Warner Bros. filed for a trade mark for a new game called “Multiversus.” It is not known if the rumor and the Multiversus are connected.

During an episode of the GrubbSnax show for GameSpot’s sister company Giant Bomb, Grubb shared more details about the rumored game, as relayed by Nibel on Twitter. The game could be free and “it looks cheap,” according to a source. Future characters could be sold as DLC, and LeBron James himself could be the first DLC character, according to the report.

Is Multiversus the name of WB’s fighting game?

WB has yet to make an official announcement, so all of this needs to be taken with a grain of salt for now. While reports have suggested that NetherRealm is not working on this rumored game, Grubb said the studio is is currently developing Mortal Kombat 12. Fans have also been waiting for NetherRealm to do Injustice 3, but it remains to be seen whether or not that will happen.

GameSpot has contacted Warner Bros. to try to find out more. Keep checking for the last one.
