Eastshade’s Songs of Glimmerwick will feature an inclusive character designer – Eurogamer.net

For all witches and wizards.

Inclusivity is expected to be a major aspect of Songs of Glimmerwick, the recently announced RPG from developer Eastshade Studios.

Like a mix of Harry Potter and Stardew Valley, the game is set in a magical school and features a mix of RPG-style quests and life simulation aspects like schoolyards, gardening and more. Oh, and magic is done through music. Cared for!

Players will create their own character which will not be gender defined, nor will customization options be gender locked.

As the game will be translated into multiple languages with no gender-neutral options, the developers are exploring options to ensure the game is as open as possible for players around the world.

Although in early development, Songs of Glimmerwick will not currently feature romance between players. However, there will be a diverse cast of characters and same-sex relationships will feature.

Magic schools are certainly popular right now. Beyond Songs of Glimmerwick, developer Chucklefish is working on Witchbrook, while Avalanche has Hogwarts Legacy.

The Harry Potter series has a diverse fan base, so Avalanche ensured that trans witches and wizards were represented in Hogwarts Legacy despite the controversial opinions of Harry Potter creator JK Rowling. The game is still due out this year, despite rumors to the contrary.

Songs of Glimmerwick, however, is shaping up to be a cute and diverse alternative for fans of all things magical, musical, and mysterious. It is expected to release on Steam in Q3 2023.
