With 2022 upon us, many consumers are likely looking forward to big triple-A games in the coming months such as Horizon Forbidden West and Dying Light 2. Fortunately, indie game enthusiasts are not left out. Anyone who enjoyed Chicory: A Colorful Tale from last year might want to keep an eye out for the team’s next project.
Chicory’s lead developer Greg Lobanov posted a tweet that he is working on a new project with the studio. Lobanov hopes to share more details at some point in 2022, but has made no promises. Given the wording, it’s likely fans shouldn’t expect the game to release until 2023 at the earliest.
In addition to teasing the new game, Lobanov also posted a list of jobs for concept artists. Examination of the list reveals that they are specifically looking for creature concept artists, indicating that the next project will likely revolve around anthropomorphic animals like with Chicory: A Colorful Tale.
Beyond that, there isn’t much else fans can do other than wait for more details to arrive. For the uninitiated, Chicory: A Colorful Tale is an adventure / puzzle game, in which the main mode of interaction and progression is to paint the black and white landscape inhabited by its inhabitants. It was received positively for wrapping its mechanics in a touching narrative that players connected to. Fans may be keeping their fingers crossed that the next game involves a similar fusion of elements.
