Mushuko Tensei: Reincarnation without a job is one of the most discussed examples of the psychic dubbed Isekai operating in the anime world today, with the series recently making headlines thanks to a scene that saw Rudeus and Eris consummate their relationship. In a recent interview, this isekai series creator Rifujin na Magonote shared his thoughts on including sex in his series which sees a thirty-four-year-old underachiever reincarnated in a fantasy world.
Creator Magonote said this in his interview with Anime News Network on the controversial topic of his popular series:
“In Japanese creative works, there are two opposing approaches to portraying sex life: as ‘sacred’ or as ‘pleasure’. I guess I found my inspiration because I thought there wasn’t enough representation of the point of view that reproductive activity is natural to organisms. Because it is an important part of the life of an organism, it is not wrong to call it sacred. However, it is also true that sex is associated with pleasure. You could also say that it is natural for people to treat sex as pleasure as long as the pleasure is linked to the act. With that in mind, in describing the world of Mushoku Tensei, I aimed for the happy medium between “sacred” and “pleasure”. This is the atmosphere I was looking for.
Incidentally, when writing the opening act of the story, I put a lot of emphasis on Rudeus’ take on sex as a thing of pleasure. This is quite natural because he had no experience in his previous life, so the pleasure aspect was the only side he had come into contact with. Therefore, there might be a lot of people who strongly feel the pleasant side. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise – you’re not broadcasting something sacred in plain sight. “
If you are not familiar with Mushoku Tensei: Unemployed Reincarnation, Funimation offered the official description as such:
“A 34-year-old underachiever gets run over by a bus, but his story is not over. Reincarnated as a child, he will embark on an epic adventure.
