The PlayStation VR2 looks like the longest teaser campaign ever for a tech product. First announced in January this year, it wasn’t until a month later that Sony Interactive Entertainment would reveal what it looks like. That’s not even counting the Sense controllers that appeared a year earlier, in March 2021. Now the company is finally announcing a release window for its next-gen VR headset.
Via its social networks, SIE simply shared an image of the PS VR2 with its Sense controllers. As for the image caption, all the company has to say is “Coming early 2023”. The company is saving the exact date for a later reveal, inadvertently or otherwise extending this long-running teaser campaign. Naturally, no pricing was revealed either, as that would likely have to be revealed with the exact availability date, or after.
It also doesn’t help that an indie developer accidentally showed off what the PS VR2 looks like in real life by sharing a photo of the thing with its controllers. The image was quickly removed, but not before being re-uploaded elsewhere on the internet.

SIE last month revealed some of the features PlayStation VR2 will have. One of the most notable is the transparent view, which allows users to see the real world through helmet-mounted cameras. This means you don’t have to take the headset off when something outside of VR gaming requires your attention. As for the mounted cameras, the headset also uses this to track your movements, rather than a standalone camera that you connect to the PS5. You can also set up a kind of “play zone”, and the headset will warn you if you’re about to stray from it.
