Riot reveals more details about Project L, his new fighting game

Riot Games has revealed more information about Project L, a 2D fighting game set in Runeterra. In a video, the upcoming Project Tracks explained in detail the basic gameplay of Project L. Players will form a team of two different champions that they can switch during a match, and the game will reward “team building. strategic, on-the-fly decision-making and a solid combat foundation. “

Gameplay teasers showed a handful of League of Legends champions, including Ahri and Darius, but the developers of Project L dug into the kit of a singular character – Ekko. This Project L champion has time manipulation abilities and the center of his kit is a slash called Chrono Strike. The ability generates an afterimage that players can go back to. Rewind can be used to stack combos and let opponents guess where Ekko is next.

Ekko’s ranged attack is called Time Winder, a bomb-like attack that can slow down Echo’s opponents for a few seconds. Considering Ekko’s entire kit, the pace is fast and probably requires someone with dexterous fingers and quick reaction times.

The developers at Riot Games have emphasized that their goal is to create battle kits that are easy to learn, but with an added element of difficult to master. They also touched on the netcode, assuring players that the team is working on creating a seamless combat experience. Riot Direct, an internal system that minimizes lag for League of Legends, will also be used for Project L.

As for the likely release date of Project L, it could still take some time. The core gameplay has been established, but more Champion Kits need to be fleshed out, stages need to be designed, and ranking systems still need to be built. Riot said the next update will likely arrive early in the second half of 2022 and target at least two updates next year.

In other Riot Games news, Arcane – an animated TV show based on League of Legends – is getting a second season on Netflix. Arcane takes place in a pre-canon world of League of Legends and touches on the origin stories of several champions.
