Scout’s Matchday 2a picks for free SPITCH Fantasy game

Sponsored by SPITCH

For the millions deprived of Premier League football at the weekend, perhaps you should take a look at SPITCH’s UEFA Champions League game, where you effectively have a Free Hit token to play for every round of group matches and only be judged on your best three!

Alongside a season-long cash prize option that costs £12.75 to join, there are plenty of ‘classic’ versions – one of which is free.

SPITCH is a platform where managers can use their football knowledge to defeat others and win cash prizes.

As with the FPL, managers commit to training and have a budget to buy players for their line-up, with the goal of scoring points and winning prizes.

But unlike FPL, managers can actually go over or over their budget by ₵1,200 – this will determine how many pluses or minuses they start the round with.

Each week of the “Season” mode requires a new formation without a captain. Managers are allowed up to nine players from the same club and can change teams during the day. “Safety Net” automatically replaces non-runners, while a sophisticated scoring system rewards defensive actions in a way FPL does not.

Only seven games will take place on Tuesday night, as the Group A clash between Rangers and Napoli was delayed for 24 hours due to police restrictions imposed by the Queen’s death.

Aligned in 3-3-4, we chose the goalkeeper of Club Brugge Simon Mignolet (₵77) in hopes that he will have some saves to make as the Belgian side travel to Porto.

A three-man attacking back takes advantage of Kostas Tsimikas (₵71) being cheaper than teammate Andrew Robertson (₵85), who will miss against Ajax with a knee problem. The inclusion of Alphonse Davies (₵90) shrugs off tough Barcelona opposition and focuses on his fantastic ability to get involved higher up the pitch. Atlético full-back Reinildo (₵69) completes the trio.

In Ajax’s 4-0 pounding against Rangers last week, Edson Alvarez (₵71) scored 200 points with one goal and 164 more due to 82 completed passes. Add to that some tackles and an extra shot on target, the Mexican delivers the complete package.

Barcelona Midfielder Frank Kessie (₵90) also scored last week, along with two more “goal shot” moments. He collected 439 points to rank as the sixth-best SPITCH midfielder on matchday one. A Spurs attacking double sees Dejan Kulusevsky (₵112) and Harry Kane (₵160) selected for their trip to Sporting CP.

In fact, the England forward received the armband from our captain, which can only be done in ‘Classic’ mode. He is a confident goalscorer who is completely rested from the weekend’s lack of action and already has five goals for the campaign.

Robert Lewandowski (₵145) has a very quick return to former club Bayern Munich, following his summer move to Spain. A phenomenal 344 goals came in during his eight years there – with an average of 43 per season that simply didn’t exist at this level until Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi entered the fray. Will it be a happy reunion for the 34-year-old?

Also in the front are Mohammad Salah (₵180) and Lautaro Martinez (₵84) for matches against Ajax and Viktoria Plzen respectively. The Egyptian is losing some FPL love but Liverpool will be desperate to right the wrongs of their shock 4-1 defeat at Napoli.

Meanwhile, Inter’s Martinez is backed to have a good time with their Czech opponents, a side that lost their first encounter 5-1 to Barcelona.
