When the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X / S were announced, gaming enthusiasts were excited to see what the future of gaming would look like. Each new console had some exciting new features that seemingly changed the game for good. One of the unsung heroes of the last generation of consoles is undoubtedly the drastically reduced load times. Waiting for a game to load is just something that goes along with playing video games, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S have dramatically reduced those wait times thanks to internal SSDs that come standard in every unit. .

As is often the case when troubleshooting one problem, eliminating bulk load times created another. Loading screen tips have been used in the majority of video games over the last few generations of consoles, and although they are still present in games for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, they are virtually unnecessary. The screen loading tips have given many gamers a little something to do while they wait for the next section of their game to load, and with games like Special operations: the line, can sometimes even add to the overall narrative experience. However, they are no longer a valid option.

Screen loading tricks have been around for so long that it just seems natural for game studios to keep putting them in their titles. However, now that loading is almost instantaneous with the PS5 and Xbox Series X, hints often only appear onscreen for a second or two before players load into the game. screen usually takes too long to read and understand in this split-second wait time, so it seems unnecessary for studios to continue including them as intergenerational titles become less and less common. While the newer consoles have done a lot of good for gaming, they’ve also brought with them death screen loading tips.

While loading screen tips are almost never groundbreaking in terms of what they teach the player, they often serve as good reminders of gameplay mechanics and lore that players might not remember when they did. play through longer titles. Some of the best loading screens also offer forms of interactivity that help make the wait less long and unfortunately these types of memorable loading screens are disappearing with newer consoles as well.

Due to their outdated nature, games should just ditch loading screen tips. It is often shocking to try to read a tip to get four or five words and then suddenly be placed in the game world. If the tips work the way they have for years no longer work, then the games. should try something else to take their place. Putting anything in a one to two second slot won’t do much because it’s not enough time to really see and understand something. As such, just popping different game artwork into the mix isn’t a great solution.

The problem is, there just isn’t enough time for really anything, so studios have to figure out what to do with that downtime. It can be as simple as throwing a logo on the screen or even just going black, but it’s likely the next few years will be key to finding out how that downtime is spent. As more studios work on exclusive PS5 or Xbox Series X titles, they’ll likely look to their favorite recent games to see what they do in the fast loads. This will establish what will happen to the loading screens, but it is likely that the limited wait times of the PS5 and Xbox Series X will bring the permanent end of the loading screen tips.
