Virat Kohli shouldn’t be let down, he single handedly can win you World Cups – Sarandeep Singh

Former India manager Sarandeep Singh has said India’s senior striker Virat Kohli, who has been going through a period of leanness for a long time, should not be left out of the India squad.

Virat Kohli had a bad run with the bat in the recently concluded T20I series against England. In the second game, he scored 1 run on 3 balls, before being dismissed by Richard Gleeson. In the third T20I, the 33-year-old scored 11 runs on 6 balls, including 1 four and 1 six, before being dismissed by David Willey.

Speaking to Times Now, Sarandeep Singh said Kohli is a player capable of winning World Cups for India on his own.

“What are the selectors doing to figure out where his stick is going wrong? He shouldn’t be let go. Everyone knows their abilities and potential. He alone can win you World Cups,” Singh told Karishma Singh of Times Now.

According to reports, Kohli, who was rested for West Indies ODIs, will also be rested for the five-game T20I series against West Indies. Meanwhile, Singh said Kohli shouldn’t be rested as he can only regain his form by playing non-stop cricket.

“Why are we giving him rest then? What is this illogical way of selecting players? He plays one set then rests and then he plays another set. Getting him to play if he’s not performing is the only way for him to get back into shape,” he added.

Rohit Sharma shares his views on Kapil Dev’s comment on Virat Kohli

India’s legendary all-rounder and World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev had said that if Ravichandran Ashwin could be left out of India’s squad, so could Virat Kohli if he doesn’t play.

At a press conference after India’s 17-point loss in the third T20I against England, skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about his opinion on Kapil Dev’s comment.

“He watches the game from the outside and doesn’t know what’s going on inside. We have our thought process. We build our team and behind that there’s a lot of thinking. We support the boys and their give opportunities.

“So those things you don’t know from the outside. So what happens outside is not important, but what happens inside is more important to us,” Sharma said in a post-match press conference.

“If you talk about form, everyone has their ups and downs. The quality of the player is not affected. So we should keep these things in mind.

“When a player has been doing well for so many years, then one or two bad streaks doesn’t make him a bad player. We shouldn’t overlook his past performances. We who are in the team know the importance of the player. They all have the right to talk about it but it doesn’t matter too much to us,” he added.
