Xbox players are entitled to two more free games

Hope your calendars are set to “renew monthly” because now is the time – it’s time to get access to more free Xbox games.

All Xbox gamers (whether they’re on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S) know that mid-month means free games for those with Xbox Gold subscriptions. And guess what? It’s the middle of the month!

As we revealed a few weeks ago, August’s Xbox Games with Gold included the excellent Saints Row 2, ahead of the series reboot later this month. We were also treated to the cat cafe simulator Calicoif you prefer your games with fewer guns and strippers, and more coffee and kittens.

For now I’m scared Saints Row 2 is no longer free on Xbox, but that’s not entirely a disaster, as Calico is still free until the end of the month, and we have two new games to check out for free!

The first of these titles, available within a month, is 2020’s Scourgebringer – a pixelated roguelite that came out when pixelated roguelites were really all the rage. It’s a joy to report that Scourgebringer isn’t just another to cram into this genre, as its fast and fluid combat is what sets it apart from the rest, chaining you together with melee attacks and ranged combat to take down this which may seem like an inexhaustible supply of enemies. We gave it a 4/5 in our Full Reviewciting its wealth of replayability as a real selling point.

Until the end of the month, Gold members can also download Monaco: what’s yours is mine free. Almost ten years old now, veteran Xbox gamers may remember that this one is some of the best co-op fun on the Xbox 360, and that’s really saying something. Monaco is a class-based heist title, where the focus is less on combat and more on stealth. While you can decide to loot as a solo player, the real strategy comes when you sit down with three of your friends and synergize your unique abilities to pull off the perfect crime.

So that’s the recap for the mid-month change for Games with Gold. In short, we say goodbye to the saints and now have the opportunity to take care of a few cats, venture into dungeons or earn a living as a bank robber. Not a bad set of options, huh?

As always, we look forward to hearing from you. Let us know which titles you’ll grab for free for the rest of this month – the forum to do so is down in the comments below or on our social media.
